About Kelly

Kelly LaPorte is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology, with a Concentration in Substance Abuse Counseling, from the Adler School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, IL and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL.

Upon volunteering at a domestic violence shelter, Kelly completed training for her Domestic Violence Certification. She completed her clinical rotation at the Will County Health Department where she gained experience facilitating domestic violence group counseling and substance abuse group counseling, as well as individual therapy for adolescents and adults.

During her studies as an undergraduate student, Kelly was involved in a health organization that educated her peers on the importance of living a positive, healthy lifestyle. She was also involved in Epsilon Sigma Alpha, a community service sorority, where she learned the importance of philanthropy and reaching out to the community.

Kelly works with a wide range of age groups; primarily focusing on the adolescent, teenage and adult populations. Some struggles she commonly works include, but are not limited to, depression, self-harm, eating disorders, anxiety, life adjustments, ADHD, and substance abuse/dependence/education.

She understands the complications of being a teenager and the difficulties that come with growing up and finding your individuality. Due to the empathy and compassion she has with this topic, she builds strong rapport with her clients as well as their families to make the therapeutic process enjoyable and successful.

By taking on a holistic approach, she takes into account the individual’s psychological, physical, biological and social needs. She commonly utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy and client-centered therapy, as well as empowerment, positive psychotherapy and motivational techniques to help an individual gain their full potential to reach their goals.
