Welcome to the family Sarah, we are so excited to have you and cannot wait to see how you can impact the community!

Hello,

My name is Sarah Wertelka and I am excited to introduce myself as the new Clinical Therapy Extern at Naperville Counseling Center. I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. There I majored in Behavioral Science Psychology and had the amazing opportunity to participate in a practicum at WoodsEdge Learning Center. WoodsEdge is a special education based school in which I was able to work with a variety of children on the Autism Spectrum. I spent much of my time there teaching children communication and daily life skills like maintaining eye contact, language, and gross motor functions.

Through my time at WoodsEdge my passion for working with children, especially children with developmental disabilities, expanded. I enjoyed seeing each of the children accomplish their goals and grow in their developmental and emotional abilities. After my time at WoodsEdge I volunteered at the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital where I facilitated and assisted a newspaper and writing skills class. I was able to support and guide many of the residents with anxiety, bipolar, and depressive disorders.

I currently attend the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University where I am completing my Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology. I also work for Autism Home Support Services. There I continue to use Applied Behavior Analysis techniques to teach daily living and social skills to children with Autism Spectrum and other related disorders.

I am excited to bring my skills and knowledge to the Naperville Counseling Center community as well as further develop and grow in my counseling experiences. Through working with children and their families I aspire to make a positive impact and provide them with the understanding and skills they need to accomplish their goals. I am looking forward to connecting with future clients and assisting them in their emotional and developmental growth so that I too can grow as a clinician.
